Perfect Pairings: Matching Wine to Your Meal

cooked meal

A good wine can do more than complement a meal; it can transform it. The right pairing brings out flavours you may not have noticed and helps create a dining experience that’s greater than the sum of its parts.

If you’re wondering which bottle to choose on your next visit to Murray’s, here’s our guide to some of our favourite food and wine pairings.

Pairing Steak With a Bold Red Wine

When it comes to our 10oz Sirloin, 10oz Fillet, or the impressive Steak Experience for Two, a full-bodied red is hard to beat.

Our Punta de Vacas Malbec is an excellent match. Its rich plum and blackberry notes stand up beautifully to the deep, savoury flavours of a perfectly cooked steak, while its hint of spice complements homemade peppercorn sauces perfectly.

For diners who enjoy a classic pairing, the Drifting Cabernet Sauvignon is another excellent choice, offering dark fruit flavours and smooth oak notes.

The Perfect Wine for the Brisket Burger

The Brisket Burger is packed with flavour, featuring beef patties, slow-cooked brisket, Jack Daniel’s BBQ sauce, bacon, and melted cheese.

To cut through that richness, we’d recommend the Siglo Saco Rioja. Its subtle oak character and dry finish balance the sweetness of the BBQ glaze while complementing the smoky beef flavours.

What to Drink With the Firecracker Chicken Burger

The Firecracker Chicken Burger brings plenty of heat thanks to its sriracha mayonnaise and fresh chilli.

Rather than fighting the spice with a heavy red wine, try a glass of Wicked Lady White Zinfandel Rosé. Its medium-sweet fruit character helps cool the palate and balances the kick of the chilli beautifully.

Seafood and Crisp White Wines

The King Prawn Arrabbiata is a fantastic example of how seafood and white wine work together.

Our Seahills Sauvignon Blanc pairs particularly well with this dish. The wine’s citrus and tropical fruit notes lift the king prawns while complementing the tomato and chilli sauce without overpowering it.

For something slightly different, the Beranger Picpoul de Pinet also makes an excellent seafood companion, thanks to its crisp citrus finish.

Creamy Pasta Loves Chardonnay

The Smoked Bacon & Chicken Pasta features a rich garlic and Parmesan sauce that calls for a wine with enough body to match.

The Don’t Tell Gary Chardonnay offers citrus, pineapple, and subtle biscuit notes that work wonderfully with creamy dishes, creating a smooth and balanced pairing.

Vegetarian Dishes and Lighter Wines

For dishes such as the Mediterranean Salad or Mediterranean Vegetable Lasagne, lighter wines allow the fresh ingredients to shine.

The Cataratto Capriano Pinot Grigio is a natural choice, offering refreshing pear, apple, and citrus flavours that complement vegetables, herbs, and lighter cheeses.

When in Doubt, Upgrade to Bubbles

Can’t decide? Sparkling wine is one of the most versatile food pairings available.

Whether you’re enjoying a light lunch, a special dinner, or celebrating with friends, a glass of Prosecco or Welsh Sparkling Brut pairs surprisingly well with a wide variety of dishes and instantly makes the occasion feel that little bit more special.
